Try bestbuy and go for Yamaha amps. This is because gives ur the best bang for the buck… Also Yamaha is one of the only few companies that uses high current and low wattage thus charitable u really nice clarity with signal reproduction.

I wouldn’t trust too much from bestbuy. Denon makes some cheep recivers and they are really top notch! Though yamaha and sony recivers aren’t terrible or anything, cnet.com has some fantastic reviews and you can select your price range.

These are still kind of exspensive, but make shure you get HDMI and all the other things to make it a long lasting buy.

You can buy a receiver. All you bought was a speaker system. You have to power it with an amplifier or receiver (except the sub-woofer which is self powered). There is a wide variety of equipment available for your uses ranging from a couple of hundred dollars up to thousands of dollars. I’d suggest you do some research on AV receivers and learn about the features available and which ones are vital to you.

I don’t really know about best buy, but try getting Yamaha or Onkyo, because they have pretty excellent tech for reasonable prices, and they are really clear when it comes to signal like what saketh k said. Hope this helps ; )

You need a AV reciever. It really depends on your budget, and what you want it do. Do you want a reciever that can decode all major high-definition audio formats, including Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio?

Or just a standard 5.1 DD/DTS amp?

If you want something to decode all present formats, you need something like Sony’s entry level STR-DG820. An brilliant reciever, with fantastic signal.

If you want a standard one go for Yamaha.

I wouldn’t spend a lot on one if I was you, you will find that speaker wrap is not up to the job of more superior expensive recievers.

One day I shall have to tackle this

We recently got a brilliant new tv stand. It was our Christmas present
to each other and I was hoping that the fact that it is a home theatre
system as well meant that there would be no more cables.

Very incorrect. Yes, the amplifier and speakers are no longer there, but
the back is now a tangled mess of HDMI relations.

So now it’s still fleeting, and I’m putting off the moment when I
will sit on the floor and tame those cables with plastic ties and
Velcro strips.

the new setup. My wife gets the corner office. :)

The 21" Gateway is connected to both laptops, as well as to the cable and the xbox. Right now we’re looking for a solution to audio besides pulling wires. Ideally, it won’t involve adding a huge hideous home theater system to the setup, either.

It has clear bass that doesn’t distort, but it doesn’t go very low. Ok for music, not so excellent for movies.
